Agistri is a small pine-covered island with a population of around 800 permanent residents. It has three main settlements, Milos, where most of the population live, Skala, the port area, which is approximately 30 minutes’ walk from Milos, and the smaller village of Limenaria on the other side of the island. There is a daily ferry service to Agistri from Piraeus, approximately 90 minutes, for both passengers and vehicles. There is also a fast Flying Dolphin hydrofoil service, approximately 45 minutes, for foot passengers. Skala is close to a long sandy beach with shallow safe waters. This is the island’s main tourist area and has many bars and tavernas. Limanaria can be reached by the small island bus and has a taverna that also sells hand woven fabrics. As Agistri is so close to the mainland, the island is also popular with the Greeks themselves, as a holiday or weekend destination. The island is approximately 15 minutes by local boat service from the island of Aegina and there is also a water taxi service to Aegina and to Piraeus if required.
